Complete your PADI Open Water Diver certification in Cancun while saving valuable vacation time. This program is designed for students who have already completed the Knowledge Development and Confined Water training portions of the course with their local dive shop.


Finish the four required Open Water dives in the Caribbean waters of Cancun and the Riviera Maya and earn your PADI Open Water Diver certification in only two days with our PADI-certified instructors.

What to Expect

  • Wetsuit (provided during the winter season)

  • Please arrive at the check-in point 45 minutes before departure.
  • To complete referral dives for PADI certification, participants must be at least 10 years old and present referral paperwork signed by their home dive center.
  • Expecting mothers are not permitted to participate in this activity for safety reasons.
  • Participation in scuba diving is restricted for guests with respiratory, cardiovascular, or ear issues. Individuals must fill out a medical form and health questionnaire before participating in referral dives, and those with certain medical conditions may need medical authorization to dive.
  • Guests are required to be in good mental and physical condition to participate in scuba diving.
  • Guests under the influence of alcohol or drugs are not allowed to participate.
  • Following PADI’s recommendation, it's recommended to wait at least 18 hours after the final ocean dive before flying to avoid altitude sickness.

NOTE: Referral paperwork for PADI certifications is valid for one year from the last completed pool or theory segment; after that, you must retake those portions.

The PADI Open Water Diver Referral program is designed for students who have already completed the Knowledge Development and confined water training portions of the PADI Open Water Diver certification before traveling to Cancun.


This PADI Referral Certification program focuses exclusively on completing the four required open water certification dives needed to obtain the full PADI Open Water Diver certification, allowing students to finish their training while exploring the beautiful waters of the Mexican Caribbean alongside experienced PADI instructors.

Because students have already completed their confined water and pool training sessions before arriving in Cancun, the PADI Open Water Diver Referral program allows them to go directly into the ocean to complete their required certification dives.


During these referral dives, the instructor will review the student’s mastery of the essential scuba skills learned during their confined water training sessions, while they explore the warm Caribbean waters of the Riviera Maya surrounded by coral reefs, tropical fish, and vibrant marine life.

After earning your certification, many divers continue exploring famous dive destinations like Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, and the Riviera Maya reefs. Certified divers can also eventually progress toward more advanced scuba experiences, including drift diving, deeper reefs, and specialty courses.


With professional support from our dive center staff, students can continue developing their diving skills long after completing their referral program.

The PADI Open Water Diver Referral program is designed for students who have already completed the academic training, pool work, and basic scuba skills sessions with a local dive center. Instead of repeating the full course, referral students complete only the required open-water dives in Cancun with our PADI instructors.

After successfully completing your initial training, your local instructor will provide referral documentation. You can then complete the four required open water dives in Cancun and the Riviera Maya with our PADI-certified instructors to earn your full PADI Open Water Diver certification.

Yes. The PADI Open Water Diver Referral program is designed for students who have already completed the Knowledge Development and confined water pool work portions of the course with their local dive center before traveling to Cancun. Once you arrive, you’ll complete the required open water dives with our PADI instructors to finish your certification.

In many cases, yes. Divers who have completed equivalent SSI training may be able to continue their certification process through referral dives. We recommend contacting our Dive Center staff in advance so we can review your training information and provide the best answer for your situation.

This program allows you to complete the classroom and pool training at home while using your vacation time to enjoy the exciting open water dives in the Caribbean Sea.

Yes. While all required scuba equipment is included, guests are welcome to bring and use their own gear if preferred.

In many cases, yes. Non-diving companions may be able to join the boat depending on availability, operational conditions, and the specific dive location for the day. We recommend contacting our Dive Center staff in advance so we can provide the best answer and help arrange the experience for your group.
